I have been mulling over whether Birthright should have a currency or not. The reason for my debate is that I don't know what people would buy with the currency. There isn't going to be any sort of "points" (such as FPP, CWP, Tokens, or MP) and you cannot buy someone's wolves. The only reason for currency would be for art, but I am thinking a way could be worked out for system for that.
Items cannot be traded and are only obtained by hunting, upgrading your account, or buying them with USD (it'd be very cheap). They would be natural items, such as meat and bones, and then a few extravagant items used to change a wolf's stats. There won't be user shops, so there isn't much reason to have currency, but I would still like your honest opinion.

I think that maybe food or something would be a good currency. Because if you're going to have a currency, you're likely going to want other uses for it. What do artists do with their currency? Or what if you're not interested in art? Or don't visit forums?
So I think that maybe if we end up having currency, it should go towards your wolves or something, or give you certain perks, because otherwise it's pretty much useless.

For food, you have to hunt. There's not other way to feed your wolves. The items that would come from hunting might be skin for pups and juveniles to play with and/or other items that serve hardly a true purpose. Bones come from hunting (obviously), too.
The system for artist would probably result in them receiving some sort of perk. Even then, I'm considering not having that. Then there's the problem of members receiving tags or adoptables for their account. I understand that art is a very important part of a community, but it's mainly because of the currency, right? If we took that away, would people still make art for other members?

Yeah, and that's one of the issues about not having currency. If there's no other way to really give items to other members or something else of value, then some artists may see no point in it, and only make art for their friends or something. I really think that we should have currency, we just need more things to do with it.

Well my whole point as to why we shouldn't is that it's unrealistic. You're not playing as a person taking care of wolves, you're playing as a whole pack of wolves. Wolves don't have a currency and I want to keep BR as realistic as possible. So what other way could we encourage people to make art?

As much as I'd like to say people are selfless enough to draw for others, not all of us work that way. Maybe for a certain amount of time people wouldn't mind giving out free stuff, but after awhile you think to yourself "man, I could be getting paid for this on another site."
As for currency... I'm not too sure. I'll have to think on that for awhile.

They could be easily obtainable items, like meat or something. So trade items for art instead of money! :3

What could artist get in exchange for their art? Because, without artist, a lot less people will want to upgrade and BR would go broke. ;_;

If you were an artist and you joined Birthright, what would you want for your art besides currency, items, and wolves?

Hmmmm.....how about fame? I mean, like....you could sell art for fame...and if you got enough fame you could get a surprise, I suppose. XD -dumb idea-

I was thinking of something like that, but wouldn't that create superiority complexes?

This is a tough question. As of late on other sites I have been charging only USD because I don't have much use for the in game stuff, so as long as USD is still ok, then I am content (although the market has been pretty painful lately with sale xD). It would be nice to maybe have some other payment for art that is game related. hmm. It's hard to think up stuff when I have no clue what is really going into the site now xD
Maybe some type of mechanism that allows for more favorable hunting temporarily--stuff that affects the environment in some way that is beneficial to the pack that lasts for a day or so.
still something I also need to mull over. Realism is the most difficult trait to truly replicate in a game, so kudos to the efforts made thus far!

Perhaps selling a piece of art will give all of their wolves full heath for an hour or so and then revert back to what it was before? I'm trying to think of something worth selling art for but doesn't give artists a big advantage.
